Foundational Content is a more personal page about what makes me the architect, author, family man, friend and thinker that I am.

Classical buildings are known for their cornerstones. The cornerstone served a very functional purpose in setting the structure in place and it also served as a monument and marker to identify building. Every life and work should have a cornerstone. I will display mine – foundational content – on this page.

I also would be glad to answer any specific questions here as well, to the extent that the correspondence will edify the reader. My e-mail: collier1960@hotmail.com.

S. Collier Ward, AIA, LEED A.P.

After 20+ years as a registered architect, my current title has become Consulting Architect & Author.

This is a bit of philosophical biography I prepared for the Punchwork freelance network:

Who I Am:
I am an Architect by training and by profession, and therefore I am a collaborator.

Of all creative endeavors Architecture is the least solitary. It requires a deft meeting-of-minds to reconcile the disparate visions, fixed budgets, too-short schedules and ever increasing regulations. The Architect is the mind in the middle, the mediator, the moderator. From napkin sketching to ribbon cutting, the Architect is always collaborating, cooperating and tirelessly playing well off the dreams and strengths of others.

By chance and by choice I am a collaborator.

What I Do:
I listen well to the client’s words and sync with his expressed need, goal or vision. I employ my experience to shape those expectations. I educate, when it’s needed or desired. I learn from each encounter. I laugh through it all. And I work my heart out to see the client’s expectations through to a beneficial completion.

How I Think:
I’m a WORD man. It’s been said that WORDs frame the world. WORDs judge the guilty and bless the needy. WORDs flow from the abundance of the heart. In life, in work, in any collaborative endeavor – the right WORDs will make the difference.
